Plot Summary:
Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neil) is approached by Noel and Amanda Kirby (William H. Macy and Tea Leoni) and offered a huge amount of money if he will act as their guide as they fly over Isla Sorna the island where cloned dinosaurs roam freely. Dr. Grant, in desperate need of the money to fund his projects, reluctantly agrees. Isla Sorna described as “the worst place on earth” is a "no go area" for humans but Noel Kirby has told Dr. Grant that he has special permission to fly over at low altitude. Much to Dr. Grant’s horror, the pilot lands on the island and it turns out that the Kirby’s are not just wealthy thrill-seekers but are instead searching for their son who went missing near the island. Dr. Grant warns the Kirbys that they will be lucky to get off the island never mind find their son alive…
Review:
This is the third outing for the oversized lizards of Jurassic Park and while the animations and computer-generated imagery are better than ever the story is the weakest yet. There is very little plot other than the same old tired story of dinosaurs chasing humans around the island. Sadly, the shallow characters, script, and plot do not match up to the special effects that belong in the biggest of blockbusters.
The story seems to be aimed at a younger, more forgiving, audience and the PG certificate reflects this. For the 8 to 13 age group, there is plenty to keep them interested as the action is well-paced. The Raptors are still the scariest but there are also a couple of new dinosaurs like the flying Pteranodon to marvel at.
Not much call for great acting in this. Look scared and run like mad!
It has been great fun but I hope the gates of Jurassic Park will now be closed and locked for good!
