Plot Summary:

Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) the daughter of a famous Archaeologist must go in search of two pieces of an ancient artifact that have been hidden in tombs far apart from each other.  The pressure is on, as she must find the pieces before they fall into the wrong hands.  Once the pieces are brought together they will give the holder the power to change the past…

Review:

The film is based on the very successful computer game "Tomb Raider" and I’ve spent far too many hours directing Lara Croft through tunnels, caves, and tombs as she ran across my computer screen in search of hidden treasure.  Now Angelina Jolie brings Lara Croft to life in the cinema.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

The movie has good special effects, some great sets, and good action pieces but it is still a big disappointment!  The problem is that no matter how good the special effects are there needs to be a good story that grips the audience.  Even in an action film, this is true but in this movie, the story is weak and silly in parts.  The movie takes too little time to develop characters or background story and it just doesn’t grab the interest or the imagination.

As well as the lack of a convincing story this film is void of any tension or suspense.  What should be a roller coaster of thrills and scares is instead dull. You certainly won’t be sitting on the edge of your seat for this one! It’s hard not to compare this film with the far superior Indiana Jones movies.  Dr. Jones can rest easy!  He is still the best “Tomb Raider”!

Angelina Jolie was well cast as Lara Croft.  She looks like someone with the right attitude to take on the world as she pouts, shoots, and fights her way out of danger and still manages to look great as she does it.
